Zora's Cradle, a black owned non-profit that provides housing to black pregnant women is opening KY's first human milk donor bank on December 1st, 2021!
Breastmilk is a major game changer when it comes to combating low baby weight, the 2nd largest threat to infant mortality. Accounting for 18% of infant death in 2018, (CDC). That is more than double that the 3rd leading cause of infant death, SIDS at 7%, (CDC).
As a group of doulas, lactation educators, lactation consultants, and lactavist we understand donor milk is need to combat the black infant mortality rate and a social economical resource for those that cannot feed anatomically, adoption parents, or those completing addiction recovery!
We are committed to educating the public on donor milk as it is foreign idea to a lot while the black community has many generational scares to from being used as wet nurses to work through. We got you!
Congratulations & Thank you for all you do for the birthing people of KY, Zora's Cradle!
